The Reality
There are eight residents
living in Peacehaven House. Most of the original residents
are still living there, although some have moved on to more
independent living. Some residents attend a sheltered
workshop in Sunbeam House Services whilst others serve the
community cheerfully through their employment in local
businesses. They all have the dignity of going to work!
Some time ago one resident was
nominated Greystones 'Person of the Year' as a result of his
campaigning for People with Disabilities. Others play table
tennis, enjoy walking, drama, art and bowling. Several are
involved in the Special Olympics.
In 2002 The Trustees bought
Blake House. It has been renovated and opened for residents.
There are six residents living in Blake House. This is a
bright sunny home and has been much admired.
The atmosphere in both houses
is very much a family one. There is lots of laughter and fun
as well as the occasional squabble about what programme to
watch on television, or who is wearing whose socks!
The residents in both houses
are encouraged to be independent, to participate in the
running of their home, to develop their own individual
interests and join in community activities. They also take
part in various sports and clubs.
